CHRISTUS Health observes National Cancer Survivors Day
6/05/2026
As National Cancer Survivors Day approaches, CHRISTUS Health is emphasizing the strength and resilience of those who have faced cancer and the ongoing journey of survivorship.
Observed annually on the first Sunday in June, National Cancer Survivors Day is a time to celebrate life, reflect on the survivorship journey and highlight the importance of ongoing support for those living beyond cancer.
According to the National Cancer Institute, an estimated 18.6 million cancer survivors were living in the United States as of January 2025—a number projected to exceed 22 million by 2035.
While ringing the bell at the end of treatment is a powerful symbol of hope, many survivors continue to face long-term challenges, including fatigue, anxiety, depression and fear of recurrence. These ongoing concerns underscore the need for ongoing support and resources throughout the survivorship journey.
“Life after cancer treatment is an important part of the journey,” said Jennifer Cory, director of the CHRISTUS Cancer Center in Shreveport. “Support groups create a welcoming environment where survivors can connect, share their stories, encourage one another and gain practical tools from people who truly relate to their experience.”
The CHRISTUS Cancer Center offers a range of cancer support groups designed to meet the diverse needs of patients, survivors and their families, with meetings held at two locations in Bossier City and Shreveport, Louisiana, on the second and fourth Thursday of each month, respectively.
Survivors and their families are encouraged to speak with their care team to identify a support group that best fits their needs. Whether newly diagnosed or years into survivorship, no one has to face cancer alone.
